My favorite Subject
When I was at University the subject that I liked the most was Integrated Skills. In the class we had to work alone or sometimes in pairs. The idea of the subject was to learn to write. We had to write about topics in English using a specific (most of the time given by the teacher) amount of words. The spelling of the words was also important as well as the word order and lexis. The point was to get to the exact number of words. I liked this subject because it was the moment when you could feel free to write about any topic that came to your mind. I understand that this subject is different nowadays but no matter how much it could differ, it continues being an interesting subject to deal with. Writing in an accurate way is fundamental when you are learning a second language.

Stephen Krashen is a linguistics professor at the University of Southern California. He is known for his theory of second language acquisition. This theory draws upon psychology, linguistics and educational theory. He is an Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Southern California known for his theory of second language acquisition. He's also the cofounder of the Natural Approach, as well as the creator of sheltered subject matter teaching. He's the author of books on the subject of second language acquisition. Second language acquisition is the process of learning a second language different from your native language. Stephen Krashen's theory is used primarily in the United States across ESL (English as a second language) classrooms. Despite its influence across the country, it's regularly criticized for its lack of scientific research and de-emphasis on grammar. I like the tips he gives for learning a second language. They are very practical and logical. For him, the acquisition of a second language will occur only if the learner is exposed to samples of the meta language that are beyond his present level of linguistic competence.

"Language acquisition occurs when language is used for what it was designed for, communication"
Stephen Krashen.

BLOG 6

Free topic related to the career. A reflection on any aspect of it.

Changing Lives and Caring Too Much
Teaching is a profession where you really can make a difference in a child’s life, oftentimes profoundly. You are with children for a good part of the day, longer than their parents are, in most cases. Young children, especially, will look at you as a role model and repeat what you say and do. You often may help a teen struggling to figure out what career path to take. You could also be lucky enough to become the teacher everyone remembers as the one who cared enough to make a difference.
However, making a difference in children's lives takes tremendous dedication and hard work. Teaching can be an exhausting job; physically, mentally and emotionally. You are with other people's children longer than you are with your own family. It is hard not to take the needs of the children in your class home with you, and the emotions that go along with that. Remember the teacher, or teachers, who never smiled, always seemed unhappy and were only pleased with the kids who got top marks? It could be he chose the wrong profession, but it could also be that he/she once had a passion for teaching and just burned out from caring too much.

A photograph. Its story.

This photograph is full of symbolism. There you can see my son with his kinesiology doctor. She is Argentinian and when she received my son he was only crawling with no hope of walking. Everybody told us that he would never walk. However, she said, "do you allow me to use all the necessary tools and methodology to help him? Do you promise not to cry when he may cry? Do you commit to be regular when exercising? "We decided to go ahead because the only thing he wanted was to walk. She helped him to be stronger and positive, to fjght frustration and keep smiling no matter the pain or how tired he could be. The result?: After a couple of years, he finally started to walk by himself without anybody's help. This picture was taken a month ago when my boy gave her a present as gratitude for all the effort and positive results. Some people have asked me: would you like your son to be like you? And I answer: " My dear son, I don't want you to be like me, but please let me be like you: your perseverance, your sacrifice, your effort, your never surrender and your infinite smile and happiness. That is what I want. Thanks God for giving me such a privilege of having in my life someone like you."

Share a photograph with us and write about its story. All the implicances around it.
